Newtown, CT — On September 4, the Rotary Club of Newtown unveiled a new Peace Pole at Rotary Park in Fairfield Hills, symbolizing the Club’s ongoing commitment to peace, unity, and community service.

The ceremony drew town officials, local clergy, Rotarians, and residents for a moment of reflection and renewal. First Selectman Jeff Capeci offered remarks on the importance of community partnerships in promoting peace, while Neil Chaudhary, Rotary’s Public Image Chair, spoke about Rotary International’s long-standing mission to foster goodwill and understanding across cultures. Members of the local clergy shared words of blessing and hope for a more peaceful world.

The Newtown High School singers opened the event with the National Anthem and performed a moving song about peace that resonated with the audience. The dedication took place beside the newly repaired flagpole, which now proudly flies both a brand-new American flag and a new Rotary flag, symbolizing unity between community and service.

The Peace Pole—engraved with the words “May Peace Prevail on Earth”  and other peace wishes—joins thousands of others installed by Rotary Clubs and community groups worldwide. The Rotary Club of Newtown hopes the monument will serve as a lasting reminder of the town’s spirit of kindness, respect, and global friendship.
